13th week #2

We just continued watching the video about steroids.  There are two different types of people whether if taking steroids for muscle is okay or not. I mean, it is not okay for sure but the thing is, steroids don't kill people. Also taking drugs for increasing the number of blood cells is considered as cheating, however, taking care of your body to increase the number of blood cells is allowed. The video was saying that it doesn't make sense. This is just like steroids. Taking anabolic steroids for building muscle is cheating, but working out to build more muscle is legal. I still think steroids should be considered as cheating, but I get what their point is.

13th week #1

Today, we watched the video about this guy whose two brothers were on anabolic steiroids to gain muscle and to be strong. And how that affected his life. He didn't have time to finish the video, so we are going to continue watching it next class. I thought it was interesting because I don't understand why those guys (girls as well) want to be buff that bad. I understand they want to be strong, but there are tons of people who are strong, but not buff. Also it is illegal to use steiroids especially if you are an athlete, you could go to jail. I do not understand why they use it to gain fake muscles. I am excited to finish the video in next class and see what happens to those guys.

12th week #2

We had a test on the skeletal system today. I honestly couldn't study so much because I didn't have time!!! I did my best, but I am so scared to see my score. Hopefully I got more than 90%. (I really don't think so though) .

I should have prepared more......

BUT this is our last test in first semester. All I have left now is FINAL!!! I will have time to study for final so I am not worried about it that bad. Skeletal system was not like a super hard chapter, but I guess I am not  good at studying this chapter or something hahaha

12th week #1

Todayyy, we studied bone fractions. There are many fractions or injuries of bones. All of them seem to hurt so bad. Because the bones are strong structure. If they get injured, it won't be good for sure. I need to take more calcium to make my bones stronger!

Also we wrote down similarities and differences between infants, males, and females bone structure and functions. It was pretty easy sense females must have larger pelvis for babies, and males bones are generally larger than females. Also infants have more bones than adults.

11th week #2

Mr. Kuhn wasn't in the class today. But he assigned us reading an article, and summarizing it, and writing our opinions about it. I didn't know what to write. I am not a good reader at all.....

The article was just about bone trade. Apparently, bone is pretty expensive and rare. So people wanted to earn money from it. However the trade has been forbidden because it is not a nice thing to do. Something like that.....

Well I understand. I don't want anybody to earn money by selling my bone after my death. I would rather sleep in my grave. I believe that's how most of the people feel as well.

11th week #1

We got our test backkk. My score was pretty good hehehe.

And we actually started studying more about skeletal system. For example, structures, and functions. I am confused now, but by the time we have our test, I will be able to recognize all the bones and be able to understand what we have been studying....

10th week #2

Mr. Kuhn told us we are going to have a test on skeletal system.
(I mean we already did)

Well, actually we have a quiz on naming the bones. I need to memorize pretty much all the bones we have in our bodies...THAT'S ALOT :(

I will try to memorize at least 20 of them.

10th week #1

We started the new chapter today :) This chapter discusses about skeletal system. We have a lot of memorization apparently.... I need to remember that we have bone quiz on Monday!

Bones are important though. The functions of skeletal system are protection, structure, movement, storage,  and hematopoiesis. They are all necessary to perform everyday life for us.

9th week #2

We just took a test today. It was harder than I thought it would be. I actually studied so I think I did okay. (I already know my score by now) But if I didn't study, I would have failed haha

I hope I can keep up my grades this way. AP biology is killing me, so I need to survive in this class at least....

9th week #1

It was probably the time when we continued studying about integumentary system. Aoua and I represented our power point about keloids. I think it went pretty okay. We wanted to put some video about it but we totally forgot.....I hope we lasted at least 5 minutes. It might have been too short.

Well, I like doing those kind of projects with Aoua. She is so helpful. I think we just need to communicate more. Like this time, we made our own power point about the same thing because we both thought we both were not working on it. We both were trying to find each other on the weekend to work on the project , but we couldn't. So we ended up making it on our own :p it was funny when we found out about this lol

8th week #2

We continued working on our project about skin cancer. Aoua and I decided to make a powerpoint about keloids. We both had no idea about that disease, but we found a good website. It has all good points about keloids and easy to understand. We are totally going to use the website :)

I hate looking at those pictures of keloids though.....They are just nasty. It says I could get it from piercings!! I need to be careful.....

8th week #1

We continued studying about the integumentary system. We discussed about burns and skin cancer stuff. I didn't know there were levels of burns. I just thought I should be careful with fire. I don't want to get burned too bad.... Also sunburning is not good. I always do put sunscreen on, but when I feel myself getting sunburned, I just leave it  like that because I get lazy to put more sunscreen on. I should be careful from now on though. I saw some pictures of people having skin cancer and burned. They were just nasty and gross.......

Aoua and I need to start working on the project about the skin cancer. We are still thinking which skin cancer we should do... We will decide it tomorrow :)

Seventh week #2

We didn't get the test back on this day. So basically I am still afraid of the score :(
We just worked on our key terms on chapter 6. I finished it. I should work on my website for chapter 6 now then....

I guess that's all I can write for this blog :p

Seventh week #1

It has already been seven weeks....
Well anyways, I guess it was the time we had our chapter 4 and 5 test. I had AP biology test right before this test, so I remember I was exhausted.

I think I did okay though...mmm well not really. I did study but I didn't study as much as I usually do because AP biology is more important for me. I didn't think that many pathology stuff would be on the test, so I basically studied more about body systems... I was totally wrong though. Pathology stuff were more on the test than body systems. I don't know how I actually did yet, but I know I didn't do good.

Sixth week #2

Today, we just worked on our project. We are going to have to present our project about parasite. I worked with Aoua again. She did the rough draft, and I did the rest. We made a pretty good power point about pinworm. I hope it will go well tomorrow.

Sixth week #1

So we watched a video of parasites this time. It was really nasty and gross.....If I had tapeworm in my stomach, I would probably go crazy lol I cannot believe the guy actually experienced himself by eating tapeworm. That was really, really nasty hostly :p

I learned that there are many people infected with those parasites. And they cannot afford to pay drugs to treat them. Moreover, they get infected easier than people who are able to afford for drugs. I think it is not fair.

This video freaked me out..... :p

Fifth week #2

Today, Mr. Kuhn was not there. Well many teachers are gone this week....
SO since Aoua and I worked on pathologies of body systems together, we decided to do one more extra disease for each for extra credit.

Aoua did reproductive system, and I did the respiratory system. We choose easy ones. haha

There are many diseases of respiratory systems. I did asthma and pneumonia because those are common ones. But when I looked up, I found so many names of diseases. I feel so lucky for not having any of diseases.

Anyways, I wonder what we are going to do tomorrow because Mr. Kuhn won't be there again :(

Fifth week #1

This is the time when we worked on body systems. I partnered up with Aoua and we researched 5 systems each. I didn't know there were so many parts of the bodies and they are all classified. I never paid attention so much on my body lol

Well, I researched about integument (like skin), skeletal (bones), muscular (muscle obviously), nervous (like brain), and endocrine (like glands). And I did reproductive system too. I like one of the interesting facts for skeletal. It was like there are the same number of bones in human and giraffe's necks, but giraffes' are much longer.
I like doing those kind of projects :)))

Fourth week #2

What we did today was just review for quiz tomorrow. I guess we need to know cell's structures and functions. And I need to know tissues. It seems like lots of things to memorize but I am actually studying the same thing in AP biology. It helps me memorize for both class :)

well, I hope I will do good on the quiz tomorrow though....

Fourth week #1

We were working on pobcast for last couple classes. And we presented today :) David, Trei, Aoua, and I were trying to make it into iMovie for 10 pts extra credit, but David said pictures and audio don't cooperate. so we pretty much failed. But we still had the audio so we just played it. It was pretty cool, I think.

Muscle was an easy tissue to research for.
 Here's what we did.
---->

cardiac_muscle.jpg
This is cardiac muscle. It forms the walls of the heart.
images.jpg
This is smooth muscle. It helps form the walls of blood vessels and hollow organs such as the intestines and other tube-shaped structures in the body.
Skeletal muscle 01a.jpg
This is skeletal muscle. It is attached to bones and when contracted produce voluntary and controlled body movements.

Third week #2

My test didn't really go good because I studies too much about the structures on the bodyyy. Well I already know I got 85% or something now lol BUTTT since I went on top of Nebo. I get extra credit!! PLUS I did optional extra credits SOOOO thats worth 10% (If I get an A)!?

At least I know I can't just memorize one thing. I need to study everything that will be on the test.... ^^;

Third week #1

Mr. Kuhn mentioned about the quizzzz. I will post what we need to know so I won't forget.

Things we need to study:
negative feedback
positive feedback
structures of the body (10-15)
cavities
directions and planes of the body
structural levels of organization in the body
definition of "anatomy" "physiology" "pathology"

We studies most of them. I should be able to tell what they are...?

Second week #2

I think this time, we drew the outline body of Aoua's and labeled the structures. We had to label so many structures. When David and I were labeling them, we got confused :( I think we wrote some structures twice. And we didn't have any spaces for cavities at the end....But we still labeled cavities with really tiny letters.

Second week #1

We started talking about anatomy and physiology and we also talked about a little bit of pathology. It was just like the definition of those words.
Anatomy: structure
Physiology: function
Pathology: disease
